Lausanne Opera - Website redesign

Enhance the Opéra de Lausanne's digital showcase and facilitate online bookings.

Websites & Apps

Located in the heart of Lausanne since 1871, the Opéra is an institution that has been part of the city's cultural landscape for more than a century and actively participates in the cultural influence of French-speaking part of Switzerland.

Until 2018, the Opéra de Lausanne's digital presence suffered from a certain lack of clarity and ergonomy. Our team was therefore mandated to completely review the UX (= User Experience) and UI (= User Interface) aspects of the website, both in terms of design and functionalities.

Objectives

The Opéra de Lausanne approached us to redesign their entire website. The main objective of this "revamp" was to change the image of the institution in order to attract a younger generation, without losing its usual and regular audience.

The Opéra de Lausanne was facing a real challenge in terms of image. It was crucial to revive its image and restore its credentials through the digital showcase. The other important aspect for the Opéra de Lausanne was to make its online services more visible and accessible to loyal customers.

The technical objectives were the following:

  • Present the cultural season programme in an attractive way
  • Allow easy management of concert dates
  • Integrate a connection to the ticket reservation platform
  • Highlight practical information about the Opera's cultural activities

Our approach

We focused on the User Experience. The objective was to make the customer journey as simple as possible; user friendly, while ensuring that the opera ticket sales tunnel was complete and efficient.

On the design side, we carried out extensive graphic and visual research in order to immerse ourselves in the environment and take into account the best practices of the industry. Our approach was to bring a maximum of aesthetic images to this digital environment in order to restore the image of the institution while transmitting it as faithfully as possible to the public.

On the functionality side, we automated the events calendar and then synchronised it with the ticketing system, making the website extremely easy to maintain. The ticketing reservation process was also reviewed and made easier for the users; by integrating the external Secutix solution.

Results

Today, the Opéra de Lausanne has a modern, simple and accessible website in terms of navigation. Focused on the user and his needs, it has become the ideal gateway into the wonderful world of Opera for a whole new generation!

The guidelines of the new website:

  • Elegance
A website that reflects the soul of the Opéra de Lausanne
  • Modernity
Technologies work in harmony for a simple experience
  • Performance
Clean, semantic code with proven tools
  • Autonomy
Complete control of content for the client

On the ticket booking side, we reduced the number of clicks required in the purchase process by more than 60%, the time spent on the website by visitors doubled and sales also improved significantly (+25%).

So this nice and pleasant collaboration is also a real success.
